“I take photographs with love, so I try to make them art objects. But I make them for myself first and foremost – that is important.” — Jacques-Henri Lartigue

I grew up in a small town south of Boston. We lived in a big brown house, set back from the street, with a long fenced garden running the length of the driveway. My grandmother planted zinnias by the hundred in that garden, and I would help her weed and tend to the flowers during the summer months. It was in these gardens that I developed my love of nature, flowers especially.

My grandmother and grandfather taught me so much about what it means to be connected to the earth, and gave me a passion for learning and exploration that I cherish to this day. It wasn't until I started growing orchids as a hobby that I picked up a camera with any serious intent. At first, it was the technical challenge of photography that intrigued me. But as I grew more comfortable taking pictures, I discovered what a wonderful creative medium it is. The shy kid who played in the garden could suddenly express himself in a way that was not possible before.

Today, I am inspired by the extraordinary craft of artists like Brett Weston, Imogen Cunningham, Paul Caponigro, and closest to my heart, Georgia O’Keeffe. I am encouraged by my fellow photographers, who share their knowledge and are so generous with their time. When it all comes together – creatively, technically and emotionally – the result is the purest form of expression.

The beauty of nature is seductive; in all its forms, the essence of the divine.

ArtExpo New York 2012 was a great success — also the longest and fastest five days I can remember! I met some incredibly talented artists, including Daniel Sroka, who creates beautiful botanical abstracts, and Poldi, whose work and creative vision inspire me. A big thank you to everyone who came by to say hello, and for the tremendous support and encouragement of friends and family.
